Coordinator's Desk

It is my pleasure to convey that, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has recommended for support under the strengthening component of the Star College Scheme to four departments (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics & Zoology) of the College in 2020. Star College Scheme has been initiated by DBT in 2008 to support colleges and universities offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching across the country. This scheme aimed for improving critical thinking and 'hands on' experimental work at undergraduate (college) level in sciences. It is expected to encourage more students to take up higher education in science. Star College Scheme has been divided into two categories viz. first, strengthening of support to science departments for undergraduate education and second, grant of Star College Status. Criteria for selection as a “Star College” is very stringent and budget provision is double for colleges accorded Star College Status.

Under the strengthening component of the Star College Scheme, DBT has provided a one-time non recurring grant of Rs. 10.00 lakhs and Rs. 3.00 lakhs recurring grant for a period of 3 years to each department and 1 lakh contingency & 1 lakh travel grant has also provided for a period of 3 years.

The Coordinator, DBT Star College Committee has channelized and systematized the efforts and measures of an institution towards academic excellence. This scheme should become a driving force for ushering in quality by working out intervention strategies to remove deficiencies and enhance quality.

Krishna Chandra College is one among the few selected colleges in the country selected for financial assistance under the scheme.  We can be achieve the status of the star college because we have lot of energetic  and enthusiasm members of the college.
